چکیده
The bone mimarrow donors were professional blood donors with normal hematological findings dIl(l negative physical examinations whose red cells showed more than 80 per cent sickling vImen appropriately exatimined. l’he imiethod of obtaining an(l processing the bone imiarrow was essentially that descril)ed by ‘lhoiiias, Lochte and Ferrebee.’ The recipients were 1)atients with neoplastic disease timd, in IIU)St cases, 1)aflcYtol)eniut. Sickle cell studies of the blood of the intended recipients were negative. Sickle cell determinations were I)erforllle(l by the use of sodium metabisulfite, 2 per cent solution ifl (hiStille(l water, freshly prepared. One drop of blood and one drop of sodium metabisulfite were placed 011 a glass side and fluxed with an applicator stick. A cover slip was applied and sealed aix1 the 1)reparation was kept at room temperature for one hour. The number of sickle cells per thousand erythrocytes was then enumerated by oil immersion microscopic examination. Various methods of fixation of sickle cells with formalin were attempted. Although it was possible to fix these cells there was some loss of sickling in all

Bone marrow stromal cells and their application in neural injuries
Background: This article reviews experimental and clinical studies in which neural injuries repaired with bone marrow stromal cells. History: Bone marrow contains two kinds of stem cells: hematopoietic and nonhematopoietic (stromal) stem cell. In vitro studies indicate that bone marrow stromal cells have the capacity of differentiation into other cells (such as neural cell) under treatment wit...
متن کاملAdvances in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Mobilization and Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation
Hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) which give rise to different blood cell types are present within the bone marrow microenvironment, especially in flat bones such as skull, vertebrae, pelvis and chest. Interacting factors such as stromal derived factor-1/CXCR4, very late antigen-4/vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, Lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1/ intercellular adhesion molec...
متن کاملIn Cadaver kidney Recipients, Autologous Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplantation Significantly Improve Graft Function, Short-term Outcome
Background: Renal transplantation is the best choose in the end stage renal disease (ESRD), and acute rejection and graft dysfunction remain major challenges in the worldwide, even with the advent of new immunosuppressive drugs. The novel cell-based anti-rejection treatments have been studied by using different stem cell sources. In this study, transplantation of autologous-bone-marrow-derive...
متن کاملPre-marriage Sickle Cell Screening Program in South Region of Iran, A Pilot Study on 50 Cases of Sickle Trait
Background: Studies have demonstrated that sickle cell trait can be found in an asymptomatic healthy carrier with normal complete blood count (CBC) and red blood cell (RBC) indices. According to Iranian Ministry of Health bulletin instructions, prenuptial Thalassemia Screening Program (TSP) primarily depends on RBC indices which are measured through a routine CBC. Only when these levels are bel...
متن کاملReview of Effect of Storage Time before Freezing on Stem Cells Surveillance, Collected from Cord Blood, Peripheral Blood and Bone Marrow
Introduction: The use of cord stem cells, as a cell source for bone marrow reconstruction in patient under hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is enhancing. The amount of CD34+cells collected from cord blood compared to peripheral blood and bone marrow are less, but their collectionprocesure is easier. Delay in freezing has negative effect on cells surveillance and reduce their ability in ...
